Developed over the past summer in collaboration with Ferhat Akbaba, the identity draws on recurring ideas of time, dreams, memory and reflection in the work of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar. The illustrations depict Tanpinar at his desk, engaged in the act of writing. Botanical forms emerging from his pen surround the composition, interwoven with imagery drawn from his writing and his relationship with Bursa, including a clock, a dove, a plane-tree leaf and a white water lily.
Inspired by the fluidity of these botanical lines, we used a script typeface for the words “Bursa” and “Yilı”. For “TANPINAR”, we chose an elegant yet resilient typeface that reflects the strength of his creative output and the enduring recognition of his surname. A turquoise reminiscent of the tiles of Bursa’s Green Mosque is paired with an inky navy, connecting the city’s architectural heritage with Tanpinar’s literary world.
