This publication, produced on the occasion of Mehmet Dere’s exhibition Elective Affinities, unfolds the artist’s practice through a multi-layered reading in book form. Drawing its title from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s novel, the book brings together Dere’s early politically driven works and his more recent poetic and abstract productions, revealing the continuity within apparent contrasts. Structured around a monographic text written by the artist himself, the publication offers a reflective archive that makes visible the conceptual “affinities” connecting his works across time.
